All creatures, great and small, will at some point visit a bird feeder, if for no other reason than curiosity. The wooded area and creek behind the house lends itself to any number of wildlife visitors that are just so entertaining. It seems as though every time we look out the window in that direction, there is movement of some sort either in the yard or the wooded area across the creek. It is amazing how easy that movement is to see in the winter time when there are no leaves on the trees or tall growth from the ground. This picture was taken in the fall. This is when the bucks start moving, looking to mate. When going after a doe, they have pure tunnel vision and become unaware of being in areas where they would normally not ever be seen. This guy was definitely distracted by the feeder in its path. We fully expected to see the feeder come down by him using his antlers to lift it from the pole. He decided it wasn't worth the effort and continued on his quest for the group of young does that passed through just before him. |
